The Tillamook County Pioneer Museum recently listed volunteer possibilities with an explanation for each opportunity. Here is a copy of their article:
Front
Desk (Regular hours)
This
position is a commitment to a three-hour shift either from
10:00am-1:00pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm on days the museum is open
(Tuesday-Saturday). It can either be weekly or every other week.
Volunteers will staff the front desk, greet visitors, charge
admission, and be the point of sale for any store purchases.
Front
Desk - Substitute (as needed)
This
position is providing backup for the front desk position in the event
of a volunteer absence. They are committed to the same time slots,
but on an as-needed basis.
Kilchis
Point Reserve (as needed)
This
position is providing support out at Kilchis Point Reserve, the
200-acre natural reserve we operate in Bay City. This would be
project-based and might include tasks like invasive plant removal,
trail maintenance, bench or bridge repair, etc.
Research
Library (Regular, flexible hours)
This
position assists with projects in the research library, like
digitizing photos and documents, maintaining research files,
organizing our book collections, and other archive-based projects.
Should be comfortable on a computer and willing to learn new computer
programs.
Collection/Exhibit
Care (Regular, flexible hours)
This
position assists with care and maintenance of the three-dimensional
collections or the exhibit spaces. This could include assisting with
the inventory project, tidying or cleaning exhibit or storage spaces,
cataloging collections objects into our museum software, etc. This
position would be under the supervision of the Collections Manager.
Event
Support (as needed)
This
position would be volunteering for museum events, either as support
staff (setting up for events) or as a planning committee member. This
might include events like Festival of Trees, exhibit openings, and
others.
Museum
Administrative (Regular, flexible hours)
This
position supports museum staff with projects related to museum
operation rather than our collections. This could be digitizing
